New Line Cinemas and Other Companies

I have recently been a part of the Student Committee that helped interview candidates for the available IMM teaching position. When we were interviewing one of the candidates, we began to discuss careers that we could possibly have after graduating. I thought that visual affects or post production sounded interesting. It also seemed very reasonable for me since I plan on double majoring with Interactive Multimedia and Communication Studies.

After this conversation, I decided to look at more companies on the web. New Line Cinemas is the oldest and most successful independent film company in the world. It produces, markets and distributes theatrical motion pictures, but it also has home entertainment, television, music, theater, licensing, merchandising, e-commerca and international marketing and distribution divisions. According to one website, it's mission is to produce "innovating, popular, and profitable entertainment in an environment that attracts creativity and values the contributions of all its partners and employees."

New Line has made many achievements. Its Lord of the Rings trilogy earned almost $3 billion at the worldwide box office, and all three of the installments rank in the top ten highest grossing films of all time. The third movie of the trilogy, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, was the second-highest grossing film of all time, and it won 11 Academy Awards and 4 Golden Globe Awards. New Line also produced the musical Hairspray, which was very successful on Broadway and won eight Tony Awards. In its other divisions, they auction off things such as Hilary Duff's beach outfit from Raise Your Voice.

After looking at a number of other companies on the web, I have a better idea of what businesses are out there. However, I still have no idea where I would like to attempt to find a job after I graduate.
